It really varies with each child but, a child such really be sitting on their on by atleast 4-6 months. My neice wasn't able to sit up on her own at all when she was 6 months and my mother knew that was a sure sign that there was a problem also knowing that she was premature. Well, it turned out that she had cerebral palsy-a condition that affects your mental and physical state. When you notice things like this early on its better to get them checked out to avoid a far worse turnout. I wish you and your family well!

On average it's between 5 and 7 months. There is something called a Bumbo seat that you can sit your baby in once they gain good neck control to help them strenghten their mucles and learn how to sit up. They sell them at Babies R Us.

My son was 5 months old and my daughter 7 months so each child varies. Just wait for it next thing you know they will be into everything and you will be wishing they were still laying there still on the floor.

My granddaughter learned to walk before she could sit up by herself. She was almost a year old. One day she just got on all fours and stood up and started walking. Everyone was worried that there was something wrong except her doctor and her mother.
