I have an Associate's Degree in Business Administration, but I have no experience of any kind that is similar to this field. I have worked as a cook and a security officer. I have been looking for a job since May (when I graduated) and I am now working on my Bachelor Degree in Business Administration: Management. Either no one gives me the time of day or they say I have no experience. I know my resume is good to go because my career advisor helped me. It is just that I have no experience. Does anyone have any advice on what type of job I should try for?

You can try major retailers if that field interests you. Anyone with a degree can usually get on as a management trainee. The same applies to banks and most major international companies.

Do not think that you will start as a sales manager or branch manager as you are pretty much fresh out of school. Look at entry level positions put in a little time and after a year or so if you do not see a promotion on the horizon look to move up at another company.

The best jobs are ones that you make yourself. If you are still living with your parents try starting your own business.

Go to your college career office and ask about business (or other) internships (unpaid a few hours a week). I did that, and when I graduated college I had one "business"-type job on the resume. Be prepared to discuss things you learned (working as a team, working under the pressure of deadlines, cold calling, whatever) at your job interviews.

KEEP TRYING!!!!!

I graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in June 1994, and did not find a job in my field until about October 1995

If your dream job has an understudy type job, like an assistant or something, apply for that.....

You're barking on the wrong tree. If you major in business, work in an office, not a cook or a guard. Become a salesperson or cashier in a retail store in your local shopping center. Go into management as a goal.

Try for a research job too, although this would probably be good (depending on your exact role. I.e. working behind the shop counter at oxfam, although good for the homeless, is not good work experience for your career). Working with children is also good, the younger the better (my advisor once told me young children were close enough to patients to count. I wouldn't voice this opinion though... Work with patients or offenders would be very good.

I do not know from which part of the world are you. Hence it would be difficult to guide you on getting a job. If you are from India let me know by e-mail

Have a great day and take care

Don't listen to idiots telling you to wait tables. There are PLENTY of careers out there that want someone without experience. That way they can train you how they want! Good Luck!

What interests you? A huge driver of where to look starts with what's around you and whether or not you're willing to move.
