First of all don't feel badly about asking this question for all of the answers that said anything about there being more religions than Christianity. Christmas does have a religious meaning for many, many individuals but the snowmen, the candycanes, the trees, and Santa, the giftgiver, are all customs and traditions that we have here in America, where we are all free to celebrate our customs and traditions and post questions about them on the boards.

I do agree that the gift giving has gotten out of hand but try telling that to 4 little children on Christmas morning. We spend about $100 on each kid and we have 4 but we have them each give one present to the Giving Angel Tree that gives new presents to needy kids. We also draw names with our siblings and have a $20 limit on that, no giftcards or cash, you have to pick something out, make it, or donate it in their name.

That all depends on you. Christmas isn't about how much money you spend on someone, as long as they got what they wanted, or at least something that they wanted (with todays prices on things!!) It's a time to be with family and loved ones. Presents are not everything. But some families only spend $100 and others spend $1500 per person. Do what you feel is right.

I make a list every year and then I go down the list and put an amount at each name. Our 2 girls & their husbands we spend abuat $300 each. Sometimes more. We have a little grandson now, 8 1/2 months. I already have him one big toy and we want to get him a wagon also. He's too young for much and I get him clothes, toys often. Our parents we send about $50 each. My husbands brother & kids about $40 each. My husbands aunt, uncle and 2 cousins & husbands about $20-25 each. I also get our pastor and his wife something and some of my best friends. We are building a house (hope to be in it end of month first of Nov) so that's my husbands and my gift!! How much do you spend???

I don't know until its over..It varies from year to year..We have a large family,so the adults get homemade foods & the kids get whatever is a bargain buy at any given time during the entire year..Usually I try to get all the kids the same item, except the infants,of course..I tend to spend the most on my own Mom,ranging from 100-200 bucks, and it may be one thing or it may be several items amounting to that..I wish my man's side of the family would draw names though to save some money for everyone..

I genuinely have a son who birthday is a million week after Christmas. I oftentimes spend the comparable volume on Christmas as I do his birthday. $200/ each, plus the stocking which I assemble $30, and then with all of the tax I oftentimes spend around $250. I basically get him 5 provides. yet they are useful.

Zero! Its a pointless act! What is the point in giving people things they are going to trow away later because they didn't like what you gave them in the first place! Its totally ridiculous to spend hard earned money on such stupid things. My husband and I haven't partook in this event in years now, our family knows how we feel about it and it is the way we are and is accepted. I was stupid enough to go into debt once this way and it became my very last! My husbands son knows this is how we feel and knows the so called Holiday should be about kindness acts towards others and not spending money. Its an insane way of society that I don't and will not ever agree on.

I watch for items my peolple would like the whole year. I try to make things when I can but ussually if you are not immediate family you get homemade jam and a home made card. Family members ussually I end up spending 40-50 bucks cause that's what I can reasonably afford.

About $500 total. We have 2 grown kids--25 and 19. We spend about 150 - 180 each on them. ( one is married and the 150 is divided between her and her husband -- we might actually spend about 180 on them combined and 150 on the one that lives at home) Then about 50 on each parent. 20-25 on nieces and nephews. And that's it. No one else is on our christmas list.

I don't have any money to spend on presents but if I did I would spend about a million dollars on my kids.
