My Common law husband and I live together, he spends very little time with me and likes it that way. Now he thinks we should spend time away from eachother even more, he thinks we should have alone time with our friends, (he has friends who are attractive females--that he just started picking up at school etc. Should this be allowed? Is this normal? Am I just being overly jealous? He told me this is normal..it makes me think he already has someone on the side, I want to hire a private investigator, I have the strongest feeling something isnt right..Can someone here help me out on whether or not this is normal and what you would do...btw we just had a baby six weeks ago.

I am in Canada, and yes it is common-law once you have a child together.

i think i would get a mutal divorce from this common law marriage...sounds pretty bad there an i would guess he does have someone on the side. he called it normal to be picking up girls from school? not in my book is that anywhere like normal! i would be concerned if my hubby was acting that way too. you need to boot him to the other side of Canada and tell him to stay there...because he is bull_sh_itting you honey!

First of all I would of wondered why he wouldn't marry you before you had the baby. Wanting to spend time apart for the most part esp if he wants it that way means he doesn't want to be with you. He may stay with you cause he doesn't want to go thru the financial burden divorce comes with. Also child support and visitation. He probably had other women before he brought up spending time apart. He should want to spend time with you. He shouldn't want girlfriends.
I'd get a lawyer and move on. You will feel better and your new baby will have a mother who isn't depressed and is happy. Happy moms make better moms.

First off, are you sure that you're even "common law" spouses? Not all states recognize common law marriages, and there's more to common law than "we've been together for seven years - poof, we're married."
Second, I don't know why you'd want to claim him as your spouse - he sounds like pretty much a loser to me. No, it's not normal to spend more time away from your wife to hang with your new attractive opposite-sex friends that you just me.

Don't let him fill you up with garbage hun. That is not a normal thing. When you are married your hang out is with you your kids and him. Ok you time yes hang out with your girls not guys. As for him he is to hang with his buddys not women. No your not being jealous at all, he is doing wrong and you have every right to be upset. I am sorry this is going on.

You are right about the common law but if you think about it, he has already basically told you that he is more interested in other women so maybe it is time to move on.When you cease to be the most important woman in his life, then it is over.

Why hasn't he married you? you all have a child together already, why have a half @$$ type of family.
Anyway sounds like he's dipping out. Don't waste your money with the private investigator. Look and you shall find what you need :)

i am so sorry for you, and yes i would say he is with someone else too.believe in your intution, if you feel something is not right than chances are it isn't.this is not normal but it happens every day to good people.you can control you but you can't control other's. you have every right to feel hurt.

Is this how you see your life in 20 years??? Your husband off with his "girlfriends"! Tell him it's you or them and mean it....Be strong and don't look back. And no, this is not normal. I would move out myself.
