Yes. Of course.

If they don't get the "hint" you have the choice to walk away or not talk about it.

But I like the idea of you saying: "'YOU KNOW WE DON'T TALK ABOUT THAT ANYMORE...IT WAS VERY SAD...WE HAVE MOVED ON..."

:)

If they're bring the past up it's mostly because they're worried about you. The best thing to do is tell them how great you're doing now. tell them that it took some time but you've finally healed from that situation and prefer to talk about your life now and what you're doing now. Then tell them what you've been up to and say "Oops, I forgot. I have an apointment in 5 minutes . Gotta go.Great seeing you again. Bye" Then walk away...This gives them the little bit of something that they need to have to stop worrying about what happened to you and it shows them that you are ok now in your new life.

Honestly, it depends upon the circumstances. Apparently, your 'acquaintance' was possibly moved enough by the experience, or they feel that they need to have closure themselves, or the only thing that they can connect with you on is that event.

Just don't take it personally and say "thank you for your concern, " and ask them about a current news event or tell them that you are in a rush and have to go. Thats it.

What you need to tell them is that it happened 10 years ago and you dont want to talk about it anymore. Simple and plain. Thank you for your concern.
