Or, how do I keep it from going bad once I carve it? I'm a busy person, but every year I LOVE elaborately and artistically creating designs in my pumpkins (kids LOVE the artwork) I need to know how soon I can carve them and they still be ok to display on Halloween. Thanks :)

OOOOH I got a LOT of work to do then. I'm carving 4 pumpkins. 2 for my back door and 2 for my front *sighs* and a very short time frame to do it in.

If you are thinking about all the time it takes to carve all of your pumpkins you might want to re-think your decor and try a pumpking arrangement instead. First thing you do, if interested, is to place a bale of hay by your front door. Either small or large depending on your porch size. Then place different shaped and colored gourds and pumpkins on the bale of hay. Lastly, remove the top from your large pumpkin, scoop out the pumpkin and place a potted orange or yellow mum inside. You can also do this with sunflowers or any other fall flower that strikes your fancy. It takes less time and is very festive. Enjoy!

I have sprayed the cut edges and inside with cooking spray and thought it helped keep it from molding as fast. Still can't carve it more than 4-6 days.

make a mixture of salt and lemon juice (the kind in the bottle) and either put it in a spray bottle or brush it on with a paint brush or something and that prevents it from rotting and getting brown spots. the same works if you carve apples and such. good luck and happy halloween

1-2 days. You might consider treating the inside somehow to make it last longer. Maybe salt or baking soda? Wax sealant?

usually 1 - 2 days it should be fine Iv heard that coating the cut edges with petroleme jelly helps preserve it...
Happy Halloween!
