Yes it is tiresome, especially when the topic is uninteresting or something that I know nothing about. Some people are just that way. I usually try to avoid those who take over the whole conversation.

I agree 100%.
There are these a bit too serious and sincere guys. Some of them may not be blessed with the capability to think deep. But most of them are deep thinkers too. It really becomes difficult to have interest in conversing with them for any reasonably long period or too frequently.
Like in everything else, our mind does seek variety in conversation generally, except when one or two topics which interest us the most comes up.
The serious. sincere and deep guy keeps on and on with the same heavy topic and of course exasperates the other party.
The serious guy actually gets hurt seeing loss of interest and keeps wondering how any one can ignore such an important thing in life such as 'meaning or purpose of life'.
If he happens to be a deep thinker, then a heavy topic is combined with deep words and sentences requiring some sort of mental exercise to even understand what is being said and then some more exercise to think through and answer or respond appropriately.
Conversation with such guys who won't deviate from those heavy topics, becomes a job rather than any pleasure.

I sympathize with people like that though, that can't have casual conversations with peers. I am one of those people that is often engaged in some sort of philosophical, deep thought. I can have casual conversations, but I feel bad for people that don't have that balance. It's must be REALLY hard to make friends. I just listen and try to appreciate the fact that I'm speaking to someone deep instead of someone shallow. :)

I was like that when I was younger. I learned with age not everyone is always interested in my deepest thoughts. So I learned to make chit chat and get interested in all kinds of subjects so I could have a conversation with all sorts of people. Never used to be interested in sports. Last night, I watched a whole baseball game with my dad. I still don't think it's very important, but it gets us closer together.
My point is you should have patience with these people. They can get tiresome, but they mean well and they'll learn eventually. You could also just tell them the subject doesn't interest you. Sure, it sounds rude, but it will help them realize it faster.

For people who 100% of the time enjoy the depth, then you can thorougly enjoy deep conversations with them. When you want a laugh, you probably have other friends to go to. Tis a wonderful thing to have these options! :)
I have a feeling, though, that this person probably has a more frivolous side. Maybe you just don't see that in them?

Sometimes a deep conversation is welcoming but there are times when a great laugh is needed and when you have a person in your life that is always deep(as you put it) its hard to be around them at times.
One of my best friends is just like that and even though I love them to pieces I do have to tell them at times to lighten up and just stop with the deep stuff for today.

If they are, as you say, 'trying to find the meaning OF life', then they are not experiencing 'meaning' in THEIR life. They are not deep people so much as unhappy. I guess that is the nature of the competitive labor market; people are opposed to each others success for they seek the same positions; how can you be open to a person who may be connected to your competitor; power is knowledge and knowledge is power. How does a person fight paranoia, suspicion and resentment when there is every condition for these negatives realizations.
Are you sure it is the 'meaning of life' they are after or security FOR life. Perhaps they find it difficult to open up to you because they see no reason to trust you. The question itself is negative, so perhaps they have the same reason as you.

No conversation could ever be casual with such deep persons !
It may appear to be casual, since they are capable of deep states of relaxation even when conversing ! And for the same reason very difficult to get them started.... they are no more casual about any thing, conversation inclusive !
And deep persons, have the knack of effortlessly warding off non-cohesive chatterboxes from their vicinity !

lol. im one of those. it's funny, one day i realized that i must a pretty boring person to talked to. but i try to lightened up once in a while; it's just so hard sometimes to talk about prom or whatever when there are so many things going on in the world. i get annoyed when girls complain about how hard their life is just because they don't have the right boyfriend or best body or any kind of pointless topic like that. their conversations are so shallow, superficial, i get bored so easily. but what can i do, im in high school?

Yes! I know a couple of people that I can't have a nice casual conversation with either. Everything has to be explored and discussed to death. I'm so worn out after being with them.
