One time. I was so angry and thought my bosses were so evil and all conspiring to make me miserable (they kind of were). I ALREADY hated the job, and was already interviewing, and when it happened I was so angry that they would fire such a smart, wonderful employee.
I was devastated, furious, and didn't know what to do. So I relaxed for a few days, called my friends, and enjoyed being home during the day.

Once you allow your ego to get over it, think about whether you could have done anything to prevent it. If you think you could have, file that away under lessons learned. Try not to be bitter, send out some resumes (or visit new places you want to work), and have a positive attitude. This is your chance to find a job you like better! I did, and it paid a lot more, too.

Tina, I agree with others feedback, termination is a personal blow to a conscientious person, but an "at will" employer can take such actions.

Yes I was terminated by a particularly nasty woman who was methodically terminating all of us who did not fit their company profile. They tried to coerce my resignation after several others were fired publically in weeks prior. It was the BEST thing that could have happened to me.. Were it not for the feeling of being worthless, I would never had the gift of temporary work to rebuild my confidence... AND choose my environment.

The universe took me to the most wonderful assignments-- including a Venture Capital Firm, and a very exciting startup. What I learned from this experience is that we all have skills that we excel at, and while an employer might terminate a business relationship, they can not terminate the individual.

Carly Fiorina is STILL one of the most powerful women in America, whether or not HP invited her to continue on. Most important thing we can do is give our best to the work we do, deliver value, and be true to ourselves!

Yeah, three times from menial jobs when I was a teenager. The first was telemarketing job. I was fired because I couldn't sell enough magazine subscriptions. The second job I was fired from a supermarket due to some absences. The third job was a museum gift shop and I had a falling out with the manager due to a mistake on my paycheck and the @sshole fired me on the spot. But none of those jobs matter anyway. I have since graduated from college and graduate school. I am now older, a professional and I have been in my current career for 5 years.

Sure! Everyone with a back bone has been fired at one time or another. Take it in stride, try to learn something from the experience and move on. Even the Bible tells of how Paul advised those who were rejected by a city or town to kick off the sand from that town from their sandles and move on to the next. I am not sure what you did to get fired and I do not care that is your business. But I have always told my children to remember failure is the norm in life. Everyone fails again and again that is very much a part of life. Do not try to avoid it - expect it, but do not become discouraged for it is the journey not the destination that counts. Remember that Babe Ruth, the famous baseball star who held the Home Run record for so long, also held the Strike out record too. Not usually known, but it is true. He struck out 3 times more then he hit home runs. That should say something about the true nature of success. I once had a boss who said in his usual arrogant tone, "I do not orchastrate failure." At first I wished I could be that confident, but years later I saw that because he did not back anything that might fail, that he had already failed. Consequently he passed so many potential opportunities by, that he is essentially a nobody in his chosen field of endeavor. Whereas had he failed occasionally he might have ultimately made a name for himself with one huge success. Now he will never know. Do not fear failure, just keep trying. Most endeavors in life require 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Perseverence is the key to this whole game. Give up and you have failed. Good luck!
