I am just wondering..i heard that if you sit and bounce gently up and down ona yoga ball, this will help lower the baby and get your contractions going. Is there any other advice you have on helping your cervix dilate? I've heard of sex, walking, tea, castor oil (I will not do this method) nipple stimulation. I am wondering what worked for others. I am 37/3 days pregnant with my 2nd child, 3cm dilated, 70% effaced. My 1st daughter came at 37 1/2 weeks. Thanks a bunch!!!

sex sent me into labor with my second baby. this also may sound gross but if you are at that point and just cant stand it anymore.... have your husband or sitgnificant other use a finger to rub the cervix some to stimulate your cervix. This worked with number 3 baby for me. The yoga ball.... bunch of crap.... walk walk walk and walk some more and if that dont work have sex again. None of these things or any others will jump start your labor unless the body is ready. you can also try the herb marshmallow root. it is safe to jump start things but by the sounds of it maybe just sex or cervix stimulation will be enough to get the job done. By the way all my kids came at 37 weeks on the money. Except for #4 he came at 36/5d Good luck to you your almost there and a baby waiting at the end of your rainbow.
Bless you and your family.

I realize you are going on 38 weeks pregnant but please try to keep the baby in there as long as you can. Those two weeks can help the baby develop. My daughter was born at 37 weeks 1 day and she had some minor issues from being born early that kept her in the hospital a few extra days than normal. (I don't mean to sound like I'm preaching at you, especially since you've already had a baby...)
But, what sent me into labor was that I was walking a BUNCH (for exercise), and my husband and I had sex, and that helped get the cervix going. I've heard many stories about nipple stimulation. So your best bet is nipple stimulation, sex, and walking.
But GOOD LUCK to you!! I wish you a great happy labor! =)

It sounds like you are doing alot already. You're little bundle will come when it is ready. Walking is extremely useful. Nipple stimulation does cause uterine contractions. I also heard that sitting on the floor with your legs apart and gently leaning foward stretches your perimium and the muscles in your lower pelvic area. Of course dont do ANYTHING that hurts. But while sitting..spread legs comfortably apart allowing your belly to drop forward and arching your back does stretch the areas that are involved during labor/delivery. Good luck sweetie. I have had 4 of my own and been the support coach for all 3 of my grandsons.
Using the birthing ball when you're in transition is what made my 1st grandson enter this world. She was induced (don't be induced!!) and had a long miserable labor and appeard to have stalled at 7 cm..but the dr wanted to try one last thing before doing a c-section...she put her on that ball and within 5 minutes she went from 7 to 10 and he came flying out... (literally).. she almost didn't make it back in bed before he made his grand enterance..

"Strip the lining".
Your doc may or may not do this....a finger inserted into the cervix
and rimmed around the edges will bring it on if it is ready. My midwife did this for my 2nd son, he was born in less than 24 hours.
It CAN be done by a non-professional, but....cleanliness is always an issue, as is placement.

a warm bath can send you into labor but be careful cuz u can break your water and not know it...the safest way to go is sex and walking............PLEASE do not do castor oil....i know a lady that did that and her crib is empty .......still born and it was due to castor oil i dont give a care what doctor tells u oh its safe yea right ........so just to be the safest girl walk walk walk walk walk til ur lil feet cant handle no more u will go into labor....
