I guess what I mean is, I have been getting nasty racist messages from people, and I checked out their questions (if any) and answers, and they answered or asked a lot of religious questions. Are the fanatically religious all crazy racists, or am I making too much of this?

Well, it's a bit too much of a generalization...but you do have a point.
See, religious belief *implies* that a person thinks they have some sort of absolute truth. That leads very quickly to the attitude of "I'm right and anybody who disagrees with me is wrong," and they think their authority on that comes straight from god. So it's very easy for them to dismiss anyone who disagrees with them, and they very frequently forget the teachings of their own religion when dealing with others (such as "love thine enemy" or "love one another"), and degrade to racist, biased, stupid comments.
Sorry you've had a bad experience -- don't let it keep you away from here! I like to think some of us (both non-believers like me, and even many of the believers) are pretty nice :)

I think calling them "religious" is being too broad. Fundamentalist or Radical is normally more fitting. Think about the hot spots on the globe today. The biggest trouble-makers are hardcore religious radicals who think they are doing God's work. They don't listen to reason or outside perspectives because they really truly believe they know God's intent.
This isn't limited to religion. Consider Stalinist Russia or any dictator. They are fundamentalist in their belief that they have the ultimate set of answers and will not listen to anyone else. No matter the focus of the fundamentalism, such limited perspectives usually lead to clashes with the broader world.

there is many terrible things that are not meant to be but somebody has to get the bad while you would think it would be nice to move up a notch or two and see some of the good, more often than not you'll probably be a rescuer I'm really not in a hurry to tell you who you are that not good and i love to just be in the moment of religion and not see , just kinda of close your eyes and back away from these people until you have a plan and a couple steps in the nearest opposite direction, not that you have to fear it but it is a drain, and renewals in therapy are getting less response all the time in medicines are too expensive and therapy is on your insurance plan? where is there to go if you continue to confront or be confronted, sooner or later you'll fall from grace naw!! but they can make life miserable by your indefensible position. you may be going to deep we each find our selves drawn to our friends and they are not all that well woven together either si=o don't loose sight of keeping it all small stuff and it's all small stuff

Although not all religious people are mean, all mean people are religious... Yes you are right.
Because this is what religion is about : a prison to the mind, a prison to the tolerant humans in us...
Those people are called bigots. There are plenty of them in the USA and they elect other bigots to make their life easier.

I don't believe that the meanest people are religious. I think they are just seriously mixed up.

Haha... good question. Because they think God told them to be. Or I should say, they *interpret* it that way.
