I have wanted to become an actor for some time now, but recently I have questioned my thoughts about it. I'm not sure if the only reason I feel I want to become one is the "being famous" part. I imagine myself in big movies and although I would be willing to go through whatever hard work necessary to become one I'm not sure if it's really for me. I'm not sure if this is my passion or if I want this for other reasons. Has anyone felt this way about this type of career or another like it? If you did, did you try to pursue it?How did it work out?

I think you're smart to question yourself this way. Acting can be a hard life - lots of rejection, not a lot of money unless you become sucessful in film and tv, etc. What gets most actors through that stuff is that they are very passionate and committed to the work.

There are better ways to become rich and/or famous. If you're not sure you like the work part of being an actor, you'd probably be pretty unhappy.

How much experience do you have? Do you take classes, and if so, do you enjoy them? Plays? Local commercials, etc? If you're not enjoying it at this level, chances are it's not for you.

Remember most "overnight sensations" took ten years to get there. There are no Cinderella stories. With a few exceptions, everyone you see on your screen worked hard and long to get there, and what kept them from quitting was that they loved doing it more than anything.

If you REALLY want it, you really know it. It's like it's in your blood or something. Acting is one thing you're either serious about or not. I have an 18 year old daughter who is going to resue acting as a career. She has known for years exactly what she wants to do and is very serious and passionate about it. It's not just the famous thing either it's about her loving acting. She does want to be famous though so she can show others that famous people are real people. She does a lot of volunteer work and wants to expand on that a lot more when she's famous. Take some acting classes and see how they make you feel.Good Luck!!!!

If you can find the job you would do for free, then that should be your career. Acting is a real tough gig, though.

Join a community theatre group and get yourself an agent and "good luck".

Questioning your passion is the best start, I think.

Sometimes I think we should just do what we are good at -- be it the artist or the chef or the politician. You might recognize what you are a natural at -- if it's acting, then I think you should do just that.

You do not seem committed to acting. Take some acting classes, see how you like them. Acting is NOT easy, it extremely difficult and involves turning yourself inside-out. Think about it.
