But my mum also has one earlobe joined and one not. My brother and I are identical so we should have the same. Can identical twins have the same DNA but have different genes which are expressed, there are other little differences too, he has astigmatizm in both eyes pretty badly and I only have it in one eye and it is not so bad. I had 4 wisdom teeth but he only had three. Is there any explantation for this puzzling phenomonon?

Ok, I was waiting for someone to say we weren't identical, for everyone else who answers this question, we are definitely identical, there is no possibility that we aren't. If you are just going to discuss this don't bother answering the question?

this is absolutely normal. although you and your brother started out genetically identical, a lot of changes occur even during gestation that cause you to be different. there is much more involved in determining who and how you are than genetics. certain changes occur when your DNA mutates in different ways which happens naturally as your cells divide. other changes are due to differences in your chemical environment. even in utero your environment can vary slightly from your twin's. also gene expression will vary even if you are genetically identical.

maybe you are not identical but just happen to have many of the same things in common?

It is unlikely that you have the same genes but some were expressed differently, more likely that you just don't have exactly the same genes. There is a possibility that some environmental factor in the womb caused some developmental differences but I don't see how that could effect something like wisdom teeth.

I didn't mean to offend you, but I was just listing one of many possibilities. You basically seemed to have answered the question yourself. Given that you have identical genes that only leaves the possibility that the gen expression was not identical. I have even heard of indentical twins who had different sexual phenotypes. But considering that you mentioned that your mom had the same earlobe condition as you and also that wisdom teeth dont even develop till well after the womb, I thought the not might have identical genes could have been an answer, sorry if that bothered you. I know brothers who look exactly the same but are not identical twins, it happens, so sue me.

just wanted to give you this life experience.for every twin i've known there must be something that differentiates between the two for people to identify them even if it may be a mole or thicker eyelashes
