That's actually a really good question. Why weren't humans all created at once, as adults, to last forever without the need to reproduce? Why must each individual start from scratch, equipped with autonomic systems and basic instincts and reflexes, but knowing nothing? "Because that's how God chose to do it" is easy to understand but not satisfying because it still doesn't tell us why. Perhaps it's the reason people have pet rabbits instead of pet rocks.

On another level, people grow and develop because infants can't provide for themselves or their families, and can't reproduce. Survival of the species requires it.

the asnwer is pretty comiplcated and science doesnt know the whole thing. MMost of growin gup tha happens from the time you are a baby till about 20 years old is because of hormones that act on different cells in your body. How the hormones know when to turn on is probably casued by your genes.

Basically the short answer is that your DNA is coded to tell cells what to do and when to do it but science honestly doesnt know a whole lot more than that. A more complciated answer has to do with chemical signalling which you can look up on your own if you want.
