Hopefully it won't come down to that. Our troops have been out in the field for way too long. Let's all hope they back down on their nuclear weapon making. North Korea isn't the only country that has it out for us - Iran does too. They're starting to make nuclear weapons and it's not going to go over well with our country. Even if it does call for a war, it's worth it. I don't want to have to fear that some lunatic from another country is going to send over a nuke because they're jealousy and envy has taken over them.

NO. Here's why. Sure the USA backs south korea completely. But at the demilitarized zone there are about 6 or 7 of North korea's tanks for every one of ours and the ratio is about the same for troops. North korea is backed by China. China has such a massive population; just imagine how many troops they have. Truthfully speaking, our hearts are in the right place in being there, but we just don't have the forces to take them out. If we were to wage all out war on N. Korea, China would flood into the battle and wipe us out. I'm afraid N. Korea has gone and made the first daring move in sort of a small cold war that's been brewing. They went and took a step up in our face for a reason. They know they can. We must play this one smart and not allow them to become the marter. We must not strike first. If they try to attack us Then God be with us and we will do what we have to to take them out or die trying... If you think about it that's why we have a free country today. American pride baby!!!

We ARE at war with North Korea. Technically, the agreement that ended the hostilities in the 1950s Korean war was just an armistice, a cease fire. There was no formal peace treaty, so in reality the war has never been ended and so the state of war still exists today.
Without a doubt that belicose runt tyrant dictator should be eliminated, it would be a first step in getting rid of the problem.
China will have very serious problems in siding with North Korea this time because so much of its economy depends on the US, a HUGE trading partner, whereas the regime in North Korea is just a spoiled bawling brat who keeps trying to get its hands into your wallet. Wal-mart means far more to China than North Korea, so if a conflict breaks out I would not be surprised to see China on the phone with Sam Walton immediately.

No. And I don't believe that things would come to that unless North Korea threatened to sell the weapons to insurgents or "rogue states". Proposed sanctions will work better that guns and tanks despite the current weakness of the U.N.
Historically, North Korea had tended to go into talks with the US in order to recieve funds in exchange for termination of the weapons program. In other words, North Korea is hoping that the US will typically "buy them out". Also, despite popular belief, China is not willing to get into a fight with the West. China relies on the West to keep it's own economy strong. Notice how everything is "Made in China"? If China goes to war with the West they won't be able to sell anything.

Absolutely not, at least not until North Korea refuses to give in to the sanctions and takes aggressive action.
It'll be interesting how it pans out, though. We attacked Iraq because Bush said that a nation run by a despot with no regard for worldwide safety could not be trusted with WMD. Now that we're actually in that situation, whether Bush pushes for war or not will tell us if he really cared if Iraq had WMD in the first place.
...and to the above poster, China condemned the tests by N.K. and supported the sanctions against it.

The U.N. today imposed sanctions on NK. Kim Sung Il has already said he would consider that a declaration of war. His "bluff" has been called, so now we wait to see what he will do. The truth is, if he invades one of our allies (South Korea or Japan), we'll be in, like it or not. Problem is, China just may take NK's side. They don't have our technology, but they have a helluva lot more soldiers (NK's army is 1.2 million -- the fifth largest in the world....I don't know what China's army is, but I'm sure it's not small). Personally, I'm just waiting to see what that *nut* Kim does. As for me, right now all bets are off....he's just crazy enough to start something.
