It really depends on what you're using to backup. Here's something to get you started:

how large is the data that you need to backup? is it just a few word files and excel sheets that you need? or are you backing up massive amounts of data like a lot of music that is ripped to your computer? If it's just a few files and can fit on one or two CDs, then follow the instructions for your burner's software.

if you have a lot of stuff to backup, you might wanna consider an external hard drive. These are high capcity drives that can plug into any computer through a USB port. Once you plug it in, it should just install itself and you can just drag and drop any files you want to backup onto the drive. Then, when you want to put the files onto another computer, just plug the drive right into that computer, and drag and drop again. very simple

It's pretty easy, but not quite that easy. The easiest way is to have an external hard drive and select all the folders accept the windows folder and drag and drop into the external hard drive. If you don't have one of those, you should use a dvd-rom and keep copying files onto those until you have everything archived on dvd-roms. Use Nero dvd/cd burning software to burn data discs onto dvd-roms.

i think that external HD is better.
you have to see if you have all you license no. to your softwares. you have to re-install them again.
your drivers also - maybe you will need to upgrade them.
keep all your passwards.and installation cd's.
just after that - save your files to the HD.
to the new p.c. you can download it. but try it before on 1 file...
and in that case - copy just what you need - and not the "double files". i am sure you have some...
and all this - off-line!!!
make sure to check and install fire-wall - anti-virus and anti-.spam.
if you want to keep your e.mail and favourites - you can save them on the net. ask google or yahoo how to do that.
your photo - you can save on yahoo photo (unlimited space).
if you don't have - and you decided to buy an external HD - you can buy external hd+backup software.

There are drivers that probably won't work on the new computer. You should backup the data files and reinstall windows and the applications

there are things you can put on a keyring, and insert into the usb port, and it brings up everything. there really small, maybe two inches. but you can probably get them at any store like best buy, circuit city, staples, office depot, maybe even walmart.
