You can't establish a specific date. There are ancient oriental books with explicit sex or nudity drawings, sculptures, black & white movies with no sound from early century, etc. Nudity have been exposed in media at all times.

In ancient Greece there were statues of nude or neraly nude women. The nude in Western Art reappeared in the Renaissance (about 1500) when the interest in classical antiquity revived. Art students take "life class" with nude models.

If you are referring to modern media like TV and magazines, I would have to say it began in the late 1950's and early 1960's - Playboy is the example that comes to mind. According to Wikipedia, Playboy was started in 1953. Its high class approach made what was formerly considered pornographic socially acceptable.

In movies - "The 1959 film The Immoral Mr. Teas by Russ Meyer, in which the main character was overcome with fantasies of nude women, was the first non-naturist feature film to openly exhibit nudity. The 1964 film The Pawnbroker became the first movie under the Hayes Code to show a woman with bare breasts. In 1966, Blowup became the first English-language film to show a woman's pubic hair, although the particular shot was only a few seconds long.

In 1968, film studios abandoned the Hayes Code for the voluntary Motion Picture Association of America rating system. Nudity could then be legitimately included in a commercially successful film."

If you accept Bishop Usshers time line, Oct 4004 BC., otherwise, whenever the hairless gene became dominant. I know it's not what you wanted as an answer but it's the one that covers the vagueness of your question.

Nudity in the media started growing from some point in the mid 1960's. Nudity on the beach varies by the municipality. Some still don't have it. Toronto, ON, Canada had it's legal nude beach opened in the late 1990's.

That's like asking when breathing started. Nudity is the natural state, it has always existed. Wearing clothes is the unnatural way of life.

man is born nude. nudity is the state of man in nature. so, nudity on beaches began when man was created. it is assumed that he was created nude no matter what belief system you have. as far as nudity in the media... well, that has always been there in some form or another-- just like porn on the Internet.

So along the entire coast of California, which probably has over 1000 total beaches, you managed to find 8 nude beaches and that is a majority to you... No, don't think so

Media is an inland area. It is part of present-day Iran, and you'd be very unwise to try any nudity there!
