Yes, the best home remedies, are, lots of rest, fresh fruits containing Vitamin C, rather than juices, since you are able to get all the vital and natural ingredients from it without the addition of other stuff. Garlic tea sweetened with honey and a bit of lemon. You should be free of your cold in three days, four at max.
Then finally, have a positive attitude to life and be happy. If your mental attitude is healthy then your physical will heal sooner than later

Aside from the rest, fluids and vitamin C you're reading about, there's something that always works great for me. A mineral broth made with a LOT of leafy green vegetables. Make sure it has an onion, carrots and celery for flavor, then add as much spinach and kale as you can. A bit of salt and pepper. Try to make the spinach organic, because spinach is highly pesticided. Then drink it down. When well-made, it is expensive, all those veggies and organic greens, but it is like magic.
Also a nasal flush with 8 oz tepid water and a 1/4 tsp each of baking soda and sea salt, flushed through both nostrils with a baby nasal aspirator or neti pot. That can get out a lot of the bugs that hang out up there.

A sample cold treatment program.......
At the first sign of a cold decrease your food intake, or eliminate it completely for the first 24 hours. Take an Epsom salts bath and consume lots of liquids – water and/or lemon balm tea.
Get sufficient rest. Even if it means staying in bed for a day or two. Your health is your most valuable asset.
Avoid sugar (even natural sources) as it can impair immune function. Orange juice for example contains a much higher level of sugar than vitamin C. Therefore consuming lots of orange juice during a cold may do more harm than good.
Increase your intake of vitamins A and C and take supplemental zinc. There is good scientific data to support this practice.
Use one or more of the herbs discussed below. A proven combination is equal parts of yarrow, peppermint and elderberry. If you can tolerate cayenne (chillies) increase your daily intake to your individual maximum tolerance.
Lastly, use your common sense. If your symptoms persist, or become worse, consult your doctor or health care provider.

It's not a home remedy, but it's natural and it works. Try Cold FX, if you follow the directions on the bottle you'll feel better in no time. You can find it at any drug store or walmart.

There are hundreds of them, and they all take about seven days to work. But if you don't do anything, your cold is gone in a week. There are things that can make you feel better, but they won't get rid of your cold.

My husband really likes that Airborne stuff. You take it when you feel a cold coming on. It was developed by a teacher.

steam!
Taking a hot shower with the steam seems to work for me. Works temporarily and kind of shortens all together how long you stay sick.
