Goths for sure, I have several friends they were raised up from their families being raised through he 70's punk era. Preps are Republicans anyway.

I'd rather hang out with goths...although, they can be just as judgemental as the preps are.
For example, I don't dress goth, but I do like a lot of the music. I listen to stuff like Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica, After Forever, and Leaves Eyes.
And yet, whenever I see goth people, they think that I'M a prep.
You can't judge people according to what they wear, or what kind of music they listen to.
I've learned that as I've gotten older.

There were preps and goths 20 years ago too, but what ever happened to the granolas? They were the coolest.
To answer your question, I prefer the goth style, but I'm too old to hang out with them now...I don't think there are any 40 year old goths around.

Probably goths, because I'd probably have more familiar material to conversate with. But if I liked a quote-unquote 'prep', I'd talk to them gladly. Besides, real goths aren't afraid to think outside the box. ;)

I lean more prep than goth but I do think that goths are more advanced intellectually and are just overall more fun to talk to.

When you are 30 years old none of it will matter to you. Some goths are cool and some preps are cool. Don't isolate yourself.

wow, its been 15yrs since i have been in school, preps are still called preps..yet its goth now. black everything...hmm,dirtballs in my day.. i think they are all deeper than the book cover. never judge, until you see whats inside. i know some goth kids, and others, they are all different but usually have something to offer, if one listens. the only ones that arent worth listenting to, are the ones who are stuck up...they are too into themselves, so let them be by themselves, its just making up for something they know they lack in.

Goths, hands down. At least they're interesting and deep. I have always found preps to be shallow and self-centered.
