Yeah, don't get an iPod. Their batteries don't last nearly as long before you have to charge them again, and my MP3 player made by Creative holds more songs than most iPods and cost me a lot less (2500 songs for $150). Besides, with an MP3 player you don't have to buy all your songs from iTunes, you can get them for free. . .

I learned this the hard way; iPods suck. My mom's Shuffle died six months after Dad bought it for her for Christmas and for some reason, Apple wouldn't honor the one year warranty (they would fix it but it would cost us).

My Nano died a month after I got it and thankfully, I got it from Best Buy with a 2 yr. warranty so I had it replaced.

My dad then said "Screw Apple" so he got a Sansa SanDisk MP3 player that held 110 songs and it was only $40 with a mail-in rebate through Office Depot.

My suggestion is this: get a Sansa, Creative Zen, Sony, or the Microsoft Zune...anything but Apple. Plus, their tech support is laughable; they charge for it (after one freebie call).

Do your homework on this; find out what kind of MP3 player you'd like. There are small, simple ones like the one my dad has (which also comes with an FM tuner) that carries anywhere from 1 to 2 GB (between $40 and $100). And there are the 30GB+ ones that can cost from $300 on up where you can store more music, videos, pictures, etc.

Sony has some pretty sweet ones for $90 but they don't have FM tuner. To get an FM tuner for your iPod, you'd have to shell out an additional $50.

Another note about the Microsoft Zune. It will be out in stores (but I don't know when) and I saw some of its features on the Ellen DeGeneres show. You can actually send songs to another friend who may also have a Microsoft Zune, which is pretty neat.

But if you don't want to fuss with all the add-ons, then get a simple Sansa SanDisk.

By the way, if you want to add more memory to your iPod when you run out of room, you can forget it because it isn't possible. You'd have to buy another iPod to hold more music.

Get the Video ipod. I'm not sure of the current retail price but I just earned mine through credit card rebate points.

Get an MP3 player.
Apple has the IPOD locked up so you can't get music on or off of it nearly as easily.
