Do you feel attracted to a movie star because he unconsciously reminds you of your high school PE teacher, or a singer because she looks a little bit like your first girlfriend?

I ask because there is a comedian I really fancy, and when I saw a fan photo of him taken front on like a mug shot, I realised he looked very much like the first boy I had a crush on in high school. Same face shape, hair, eyes, nose, mouth, height, build etc. And when I thought about it, they have similar voices, smiles, senses of humour and personalities as well.

It made me wonder if ALL crushes on people we don't even know (like celebrities) can be traced back to a real person somewhere in our past.

Would this explain why some very stunning famous people leave one cold, while a kind of weird-looking one arouses one beyond belief?

That is a great question.

First, remember that we only get to see the "on stage" aspect of a celebrities personality. If we like that, then our imagination is free to fill in the rest. So we can make that person as desirable as we want to even though they not be anything like that.

This happens all the time with first dates, love at first sight, etc.

Also, keep in mind that many celebrities are people we see as often as a spouse, family member or good friend. So it would be logical that our emotional response to them would be similar to that of someone who is close to us in real life.

It is also follows that when that illusion is shattered, so is one's heart.

The Way by Fastball. This is what Wikipedia says it is about: Scalzo was inspired to write the song in 1997, after reading a news article about an elderly couple who had disappeared in Texas. The couple was on their way to a family reunion when they disappeared. Scalzo imagined that they began reminiscing and decided to take off on their own romantic trip; however, the true story didn't have such a happy ending. The real-life couple had veered off the road in their RV and were found dead at the bottom of a canyon.

Maybe some but not all. I don't get crushes on famous people but when I used to some could be traced back to an ex-crush but most I liked simply because they were hot. lol

Not for me, but maybe for some. I personally just think they're hot and find them hot because they're unattainable. However, I don't spend any time on my "crushes" either because they ARE unattainable...
