Being eaten most likely. Ghost shrimp are VERY yummy to other fish. The other cause also may be that people get too many. Ghost shrimp eat algae as their sole source of food, and if you have to many they starve. Ghost shrimp dont really dissapear, they eaither get eaten or die from starvation and THEN get eaten.

Chances are, they're being eaten. I started out with five in my 55-gallon tank a couple months ago - I have none left. I've heard stories of bettas eating them in a sitting, but somehow I think my silver dollars or the African dwarf frogs are more to blame than my betta.

Keep in mind you do need a tight-fitting cover on the tank you keep them in. I had one jump out of the quarantine tank when we were moving them to the big tank - those suckers can jump FAR! I never did find him... At any rate, I've read stories of people coming home from work to find shrimp on their floors because they didn't keep a lid of the tank (one person even talking about how her cat would lure them out and then chase them around until they died).
