Sharp pains... eeehhh well they might be braxton hicks. I remember when I was 36 weeks my braxton hicks kept getting closer and more pressure was with them. Then at 37wks 1day I delivered my daughter (because my water was leaking). You might want to give your OB a call and confirm it with him, and they might test you.
normally BH contractions that progress into real contractions get closer together, like every 5 to 6 mins apart.

Are you really uncomfortable, then go. The worse that can happen is they send you home. They may monitor the baby for a while, i went in a week early with my second cause i had really painful contractions, once i got there they pretty much stopped but the baby and i were monitored for a few hours.
You could call your doctor or hospital and get some advice anyway, braxton hicks can be painful but are not usually regular or stop after afew hours. Some women can go from 20 min contractions to a few minutes apart and miss out the middle stages. Good luck with your remaining pregnancy and birth.

braxton hicks contractions are supposed to be painless...more of just a pressure feeling.....considering how far along you are, it sounds like you are preparing to go into labor.....
i would let the doctor know whats going on...when the pains get to be 5 minutes apart, head for the hospital

You need to call your Dr. Alway's keep your Dr. informed of new symptoms. Your Dr. may tell you to drink plenty of fluids and lay on your leftside. Or your Dr. might want you to go to the hospital and go on the monitor. Just call your Dr. That's very important!!!!

if the pains start to come much more frequent and there is bleeding, then go to the hospital. otherwise, aches and pains and being uncomfortable are fairly normal as your body is under more stress being bigger and in the final trimester.
