I have a friend who had a baby many years ago and had to give it up for adoption when it was born. This person had to do this for reasons beyond her control. Now she is grown and wants desperately to be able to find this child of hers and be able to meet it. Has anyone ever done this or have any advice for finding this child of hers?

I was adopted when I was a year old. Probably the best way would be to contact the adoption agency that handled the adoption or contact the hospital where the baby was born for information. I had a very happy childhood growing up and very good parents, so I never have (and probably never will have) the driving urge to find out who my biological parents are. But I know that some adoptees reach a point where they feel they have to know who their parents are.

Now, this is just my opinion, but I'd advise your friend to be very very careful with this location process. The child might not want to be contacted. Either that, or the contact might bring up some very uncomfortable situations and questions that neither one of them might be prepared to deal with. On the flip side, it might be a very emotionally rewarding experience, depending on how the child feels about it. My advice would be to allow the adoption agency or hospital to contact the child and her family with your friend's contact information, allowing the child to make the decision whether he/she wants to meet her. This could be a potentially sensitive situation.

Either way, I wish your friend the best of luck.

Call up every talk show and see if they could help. Ive seen shows like that before....reuniting families and stuff. Call Sally Jesse or Ricki Lake. :)
