Is this a new tank? If so, that is the reason. A newly established tank needs approximately 6 weeks to complete its startup cycle, and produce an adequate supply of beneficial bacteria.

The cloudiness is the result of your tank trying to balance itself. Give it time, it will clear itself.

During this time, however, make sure -not- to do any water changes, as it will delay the process. Make sure you have a good filter in place, and don't ovefeed your fish.

Good luck!

My tank is only 10 gallons so whenever I have to clean it I just buy distilled water which is about 89 cents a gallon and use that along with a fish tank PH testkit and drops to get the PH right where my fish like it. I only have to buy new water every 6 to 8 months though because I have a really good filter and a two algae eaters that are always hungry and keep the sides of my tank super clean.

Put ur 3 fish in a fish bowl (they are ok fer about 3 hrs). Then take out all the ornaments and the gravel, wash all ornaments get new gravel (wash it first). While this is going on drain all the water, (MAKE SURE THE FILTER AND HEATER IS UNPLUGED) Then put the gravel back in, then water, ornaments, asnd finnaly the fish.

Or get a new filtreage cartridge, depending on the cloudiness of ur water.

Your water will clear up over time but until then monitor your water quality closely. Dont over feed, only feed what the fish will consume in one minute. I prefer to use a filter felt in my tank, you can buy it in big pieces and cut to size to fit into your intake. The filter pads always clear my water up over night. What kind of filter do you use? If you are using a bio wheel style filter you may want to look into poly fill type filtration. You can purchase it at the pet store and rip it into pieces to fit into your intake and that will do the trick.

If you are putting water in your fish tank, I have heard that if you let your water set out in jugs a few days, it will be safe to put in the tank without all those chemicals. Somehow the chemicals go out of the water as it sits???
