"Quicksand" is sand that is lower than the "water table" and as such, the sand particles are "floating" in the water and when you step in the "Quicksand" you start to sink due to the fact that the sand particles have very little friction between them as in normal sand.
To survive an encounter with "Quicksand" you need to lay flat out and "Swim" to safety ;-) Since "Quicksand" is Denser than water alone you can "Float" on quicksand.
The problem is when people "panic" and start flailing around and get themselves "migrated" under the sand water mix.
This "migration" of a larger body into smaller bodies is a known physical phenomenon and can be demonstrated by shaking a can of "Planters Mixed Nuts" 8-)

Hi. Quicksand is located over a spring. The water rising up keeps the sand grains 'floating'. Put your foot in and the sand above your foot is not being supported by the rising water anymore and settles on your foot, pulling it down. Same with an arm. Same with a head. Spooky feeling I'm sure.

Quicksand is just loose mucky muddy/sandy wet earth. Gravity sinks you in, you struggle which wiggles you in further.

sand is a massave group of very small pebbles, right.well when water or other liquids go between these pebbels they move around freely and than when objects are on flooded sand you sink.

it's density, you get stuck, and because you are more dense than it...you sink, this guy below me said the same thing I did,he just didn't say it in layman's terms.
