I am a college freshman, in high school being active in the school's clubs and my sophmore year I did this community service child outreach program where I spent about 2 hours a week with middle school kids and raise their self esteem and confidence. Other than that I havent done muc community service which I would like to begin now that I am in college. I would be looking for something that I can contribute perhaps once a week but where do I start looking? I'm sure many of you will mention to look at my college but who should I contact? It would also be nice to be able to put this community service under my transfer application. Any tips on how to go about it? Thanks! The sooner I get started the better.

Check under the government pages in your phone book. Under community, You could do volunteer work with a local organization like "big brother" or a "parent relief" organization that is in need of workers to spend some time with their developmentally disabled child. Even if you could assist a a local food bank or shelter for the homeless. Your 1-2 hours a week won't seem like much to you but to someone else it is priceless.

Start with your local United Way. Get a brochure about which agencies they support in your area. The brochure will have contact information for the agency. Find one that you find interesting and contact them and ask about volunteer openings.

You sound like a candidate for Circle K. If there isn't one at your school, contact the local Kiwanis Club, maybe they'd help you found one.
