pick faults with your spelling, and like, more or less shout about it, which embarresses you in the process, does anyone else think that yahoo should monitor questions more to stop people like this from answering

yeah, that really irritates me to no end, if some one has horrible grammer so much that you don't know what they're asking, i just don't answer the question.

But those who just answer your question to point out how grammatically correct they are and how wrong you are piss me off.

Well I don't go out of my way to find questions, OR answers come to that, and pick faults with spelling, punctuation or grammar, although it's certainly true many don't know how to write in the Queen's English. I also would NEVER deliberately embarrass anyone because not everyone has had the benefit of a good education like I was lucky enough to get - although I didn't appreciate it at the time. But the thing is that sometimes people simply don't care, as illustrated by the types of responses we sometimes get ... "I don't care", or "so what" etc. I wonder why people don't care because it's the way people communicate with each other that shows their nature and personality.

The flip-side of the coin is that people may simply don't know that something they have written is incorrect and if people never point these things out to them, how are they supposed to know? Whether or not they choose to listen, however, is entirely up to them.

I have to finish by saying that I'm a strict believer in the fact that it's *what* people have to say that's ulimately important and *not* the way that they say it or write it but I'm sorry that some people DO care about the occasional slap-dash attempts at writing English ... so-called "text speek" is a perfect example. Nothing is more irritating when used out of context but as far as suggesting that Yahoo somehow bar people who comment on peoples' spelling etc is simply ridiculous. If they are going to do anything, it should be the other way around but then some people who need to ask a good question could be barred from doing so and that would be a great shame. I think *everyone* is entitled to be heard and have their say so yes, sometimes I will correct people if I think it might help them but in an embarrassing or condescending way? ... Never.

BTW if you want to know where the full stop key is, it's between the comma and the forward slash. :)

I asked the same question a spell back. I always feel for these people that are attacked for such trivial details like spelling or wording. I love the human race and we are all out there for one another in one way or another and need to be a little more tolerant. Some aren't good with the computer or getting their point across and we need to be more interested in the content rather than being petty!! Some people are putting their hearts out on their sleeves, for crying out lout give them a break!

I take no notice of those sort, think their frustrated English teachers or something to that effect, this is a fun site and not an English exam, who cares if people can't spell properly, I am more interested in the people than the way they spell.

People who write for a living or who have a deep appreciation for the English language feel pain when they see abysmal spelling and/or grammar.

It's hard to be taken seriously (especially if you're arguing with someone or insulting someone) if you can't spell or use grammar properly.

That said, if I know what someone meant, I don't pick people's grammar apart. Unless they're attacking me, in which case I feel I have the right to do so.

Well some people's English is so bad that one can't help saying something as it is just incomprehensible, and particularly when it is done deliberately I feel it is quite rude.

Your spelling yourself is not so great but I would not have said anything about it, but there are some people with whom I just can't resist saying something especially if they are attacking some other person or group.

Well, I suppose it just shows how perfect people think they are and I'm willing to bet they have worse faults than not being able to spell perfectly.

If you want to avoid embarrassment, perhaps you should spell your words correctly in the first place. Deliberately bad spelling is nothing more than laziness, besides the fact that it makes you look stupid.

Think of it this way: tens of thousands of men and women died in WWII so you could go on speaking English instead of German. The least you could do is learn to speak and spell English correctly. Show some honor and pride in yourself and your country.

So you think spelling and grammar don't matter so long as people can understand it, do you? Try typing some of your answers into Babel Fish, people, and see what happens....

.....Nothing, right? So you are stuck with your ill-constructed, illiterate patois while the rest of the world is conversing in every language under the sun.
