It actually came from the English Bowmen. The English made there bows from Yew wood, and the act of shooting the bow was called, plucking the (yew) bow. When England was at war with France the French, upon catching a English Bowman, would cut off the middle finger of the Bowman and therefore end his ability to pluck the Yew. The English, at the end of an engagement against the French would hold up there middle finger to show the French that they could still pluck the Yew, and would chant Pluck Yew. The slang of which is now F**k you. The word F**k is also an English word which stands for Fornication Under Consent of King. You actually had to get permission from the King and were then given a pluck to hang on your door to give notice to would be visitors. The plack had the abbreviated phrase which appeared as F**k.
