I don't take drugs, but aren't they illegal?
Also the smoke stunts brain growth and development. You feel high because it is in a small way killing you. Babies are developing their brain the most their first 3 years. She may have a retarded or defected baby if she doesn't stop. Let alone her own mental health. The reason you can't drink till you're 21 is because that's when your brain is through developing the major parts.

Not to mention you can't take care of a baby when you are not in a normal state of mind. She really doesn't sound ready for a baby and risks having the child taken away from CPS. My parents were faster parents of children taken away because their mother was high or drunk and couldn't take care of the child in a sticky situation.

Here are a few quotes from different sites...

"After your baby is born, smoke in the air:
Makes it hard for the baby to breathe;
Causes the baby’s eyes to sting;
Increases the chance that your baby will get more colds, bronchitis, ear infections and pneumonia; and put your baby at risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). " (That is for cigarette smoke)

"Second hand smoke of any type is never good for children. What concerns me most is what we don't know is in street drugs to stretch the product so the dealer can make more money and the effects on the mom and baby of these extra ingredients. My other concern is that while under the influence of any street drug is mom's ability to properly care for her baby."

While the people advocating calling CPS mean well, they are ignorant. First of all, marijuana smoke has been shown NOT to cause cancer, much as the gov wanted to show it did. Appears there are chemicals in marijuana smoke that PROTECT against cancer.

Secondly, tho it may be passed in the breastmilk there IS ZERO evidence that this harms the baby. There are many children I know who are teenagers today who are perfectly wonderful kids with perfectly wonderful familes whose drug of choice is not legal, but not as harmful as alcohol.

Do not involve the authorities in this matter unless you actually observe her child being neglected. You will destroy her baby's life for no good reason.

Get better informed - the research is simply not there that this is harmful in any way to the babies. Do not destroy someone's life over this.

The baby can have a defect or have a mental illness. My cousin did the samething and her daughter had ADHD. I also got throat cancer from her second hand smoke. She has turned her life around because I almost lost my life. I guess she feels guilty because I never smoked or did anything that would cause cancer. Good Luck.

As a baby's brian cells are just developing and weed kills those same cells the baby can have difficulty developing properly. The best thing you could do is to turn your friend over to the authorities. She doesn't have to know it was you and they can get her properly educated to care for her child. That child is just as helpless as your child is. But at least your child has a mother that will look out for its best interest. If you really want to be a best friend you will look out for her child's best interests too.

If she is breastfeeding her baby is smoking also. She is taking a chance that her baby could be removed from her home and put into a foster home if she continues her drug use. If that doesn't wake her up nothing will. You could call Child Protective Services so the child could be placed in a decent home.

Tell her to use her brain instead of destroying it, and take care of her baby!

Ya know it's really nice that some twit has gone through and low-ranked every answer that suggested turning the mother in or stop smoking the drugs. It sure shows us where your priorites lie and also furthers the proof that pot does destroy brain cells.

apparently shes high first of all if you love your friend be staight up with her tell her to stop all smoking around anyone is very harmful havent you heard smoke period is bad on anyones lungs especially a babys... i use to smoke just regular cigerattes and my seven year old son was born in 99 and by the time he was 3 months old he was in hospital with breathing complications the doctor asked me if i smoked and i said yea but i go outside he looked at me like i was stupid and said dont you know even if you go out side and smoke and come back in its in your hair, clothes and on your skin and when you pick up your baby it breathes it in just because she smokes pot doesnt make it more healther for her baby and if she really and truely loved her child she would stop and if she doesnt tell her she is risking losing her baby through the social services if they ever found out her baby now is more important than her own life ....smack some sense into this woman before its to late....good luck...

Poor baby...Your friend cannot take care of her baby while she is high. It's not wrong to get high by yourself...it can be quite fun...

With a baby, she will not be all there if the baby needs something. The baby will prpbably be fine, but there is always the chance...

in jamaica, the children of the rastafarians are the heathiest, smartest babies on the island. i wouldn't worry about it unless she zones out and doesn't care for the baby. otherwise, there shouldn't be bad effects.
