I feel the same way. I'm pregnant now for the 3rd time and people look at me appalled for smoking. Best part is my ob-gyn said I should keep smoking because it keeps my oxygen level up. Ha ha to those mean people who think I'm horrible.

Smoking is not good for the baby, we now know this but I do understand where you are coming from. I have friends who smoked during their pregnancies and most came out fine, but some did not. It is YOUR choice. It is society who frowns on this. In the 50's & 60's, it wasn't frowned apon. This is just the day and age we live in and you have to weigh the pros and cons. It isn't good for you or the baby however, it is your choice just like any other choice women have in the country. It's just the way it is and no one can change this one because of the health issues. If you are at peace with yourself, then God Bless. I'm just not sure how I would feel if my child was born with a problem and the medical association said it was linked to smoking. Like I said, if you are ok with it, then God Bless. Personally, I don't judge. Hope I didn't come across as such. good luck

you shouldn't be worried about what we think... you should be worried about the health of your unborn baby. Just like you have a right to make your own decisions as a human being, so should your baby... and if he could talk, he would would want you to quit. I'm happy to hear your 8 year old is smart and healthy, but that's not always the case with babies who's mother smokes while she's pregnant. Maybe you might want to look at some info on the effects that your smoking can have on your unborn child, and make a mature, and motherly decision based on what's right for him, and not you or us. I smoked, and the day I found out I was pregnant, I quit cold turkey. I know how hard it can be. But please lady... the decision was easy for me, and it should be just as easy for you. I'll say a prayer for your unborn child, and your son, whom I assume you're still smoking around???

How can you live in today's world and not know about the health risks of smoking? Hey great that your 8yr. old is smart. But somehow I doubt that his intelligence was contributed to by your smoking. Of course, the older you get the higher the chance of "complications" during pregnancy. So why take the chance with an innocent life? Or your own for that matter. Having a stroke will make life pretty interesting don't you think? Hey, maybe your 8yr. old doesn't need a mother any more? And as for his baby sibling, maybe he might have a say in wether or not he gets to meet him/her.
But since you already have your mind made up, why bother with asking any body else?

Don't confuse passing judgement with concern or caring or warning.
You were lucky with your son, thank goodness but medical evidence is medical evidence. You can't dispute the facts and the fact is, if you smoke you endanger your baby. AND most importantly, you are absolutely 100% WRONG when you say 'it's really my problem' because when you are pregnant, it's not about YOU anymore.
Who are YOU to make that decision for your baby? Perhaps he/she doesn't want to smoke? Perhaps he/she doesn't want to be premature or stillborn? Perhaps he/she doesn't want to have lung cancer from second hand smoke because his/her mother thinks it's only about her and no one else has a right to say anything.
I believe the statistic is 1 in 3 people will have some form of cancer. I bet between you, your husband, your 8 year old son and your unborn baby you are going to cause it not get it.
Harsh, I know but let's face it, smoking is selfish and smoking while pregnant is stupid and selfish.
I'm not judging you I'm telling you how it is.

Your body is yours to do with what you want but once you are responsible for someone else sharing your body you have to take them into consideration. Not only are you rude and inconsiderate to your unborn baby you obviously dont care about what could happen to him/her. I agree with why did you ask this question? Other then to get attention and try to see if someone would fight with you. Smoke before -after being pregnant but not during. If you give a care about that beautiful little person growing inside of you then you would quit. There are so many women out there that would give anything to be able to have a baby and you take a deliberate chance at possibly killing your baby or giving it uncorrectiable handicapps. Hopefully this baby will come out healthy as your son did and you wont have to deal with a baby that is forever dependent on you or machines. That is not a exaggeration either.

You already know that you should not smoke while you are pregnant. So I'm really not sure why you are asking. You were lucky with your son that he is apparently healthy. I hope he doesn't have future health problems because you smoked while you were pregnant with him. It isn't that people are judging you, it is just common sense and human decency to give your baby the best chance at life and I hope you will. Is your son average size or small for his age? The health problems he could develop may not be apparent for some time.

It's not only your life but your unborn child you are caring for. I am not downing you for smoking (although I don't) you are grown, but your children are inhaling all those toxic fumes. Haven't you heard that second hand smoke is worst than actually smoking the cigarette. Your unborn child' growth could be stunt as not grow to a normal size baby. When born he or she can have asthma and other breathing problems. That is great your son didn't have any complications from you smoking but every pregnancy is different. It is only 9 months out of your life without smoking and think of that little one inside of you for a change.

First I do not know You so How could I worry about You?????
Second, Your name is whitehickgurl12....and You supposedly have a 12 year old.......hmmmmmmm.......
Bottom line if Someone tried to give Your Child some poison, right in front of You, would You let them, or do You love them too much????
You should be old enough to know right from wrong, and what is best for Your baby. Look how many People are coming down with Cancer, now, who have NEVER smoked. Yep, that would be second hand smoke........
It is kind of like Russian Roulette.....do You feel lucky??????
Lucky enough to base Your Child's future on it??????????????

Nobody has the right to judge.... however, this is a fact:
Smoking is the single most detrimental thing a person can do to shorten their life and develop "self-inflicted" serious or life-threatening problems.
Your call - but as a good dr. friend said it very simply...... "Everyone lives with dormant cancer - and sometimes it stays dormant forever - Smoking is like waking up the cancer cells and creating the perfect environment for them to thrive and grow".....
I hope you someday understand how important you are to your children. It would be tragic if they lost you early.... NOTHING good comes from smoking.....sit down and make a "benjamin franklin' list (pros on one side and cons on the other) and maybe comparing it side-by-side will make you really "think". Your call.......your choice... your life.....

You need to be schooled, so here we go. Nicotine is a teratogen, as well as alcohol and other drugs, a teratogen is and agent, such as chemicals and viruses, that can reach the embryo or fetus during prenatal development, and cause harm. In other words, you have a barrier protecting you baby from everything bad from the outside, but some things can penetrate that barrier and cause major harm to your child. your child will crave nicotine, and will have mental problems, this is certain, while it is possible for this not to happen, it is not plausible.
