Why does my water not break on it's own?

Question

Both times my doctor had to do it. Does anyone know why?

Nope my doctor didn't rush me, actually both times I was in labour all night without my water breaking.

I don't know why.

With my first the doctor had to break it, i was in active labor on my own.

With my second i was walking around not in labor dialted to five and wouldn't go into active labor because my water wouodlnt' break on its own. So i went into the hosptial not in labor so they could break it so i would go into labor.

I wish I could give you an answer but I am not a doctor.
I guess the time from labour starting until waters break is different for each woman and different with each labour you have. Sometimes doctors just want to get you going faster to get you out faster.
With my first baby the labour went for 8hrs til the plug came away, 10 hours before my waters broke, and another 90 mins til delivery (11 and a half hours from start to end). I didn't go to hospital until the pains were coming three minutes apart and after I had lost the mucus plug. Instead I stayed at home and I walked around and around for the majority of the labour to assist the baby to come down, rather than laying on a bed hooked up to monitors, thereby slowing the labour.
I did the same with the second and third babies but that was a mistake..the labours were only 90 mins long and the delay between losing the plug, to the waters breaking, to the actual delivery.. was less than five minutes all up..so I had one baby on the floor at home and the other I delivered within three minutes of getting to the hospital...lol. There is no way of knowing until you are in the midst of it.
Perhaps there is a site with the information you are looking for..the web is full of great information but remember that anything to do with pregnancy and labour can vary so wildly from person to person.

My water didn't break with my daughter either. Was in labor for a very long time before the doctor broke it himself. Your water breaks when your membranes and your cervix thin out. Some times women don't thin out on their own. I would view it as a good thing, it means you are less likely to go into premature labor from your water breaking. When your water breaks your baby is then suseptible to germs and disease, the longer your water stays intact the better it is for your baby. It's there for your baby's protection. Plus it's less messy when the doctor does it lol. Isn't modern technology great? If it wasn't for modern medicine I would have died giving birth to my daughter. I've had 2 c-sections and am scheduled for my third.

Can't answer your question but doctor had to break my water all 3 of my pregnancies. Twice I was dilated 7-8 when they broke my water, the third time I was dilated to 3. My daughter just had a baby on Oct 6 and her water broke while she was sitting on the toilet so she wasn't really sure if it broke or not - LOL I don't know why some people's break on their own & some don't.

As the expression goes "when the apple is ripe it will fall". if you wait long enough it will break. The doctor just wants to hurry things along.

Don't worry your water is going to break. If you want to hurry it up why not drink some prune juice and do some floor exercises

every woman's body reacts differently to pregnancy. some women go into labor all on their own and some have to be induced. no rhyme or reason to why.

I don't want to sound pro or con for hospitals, but I think it is because when they admit you into the hospital, they want to try to speed your labor along.
