Your 2wire 1800HG modem is capable of a wireless connection. You have to be sure that your new laptop computer is wireless capable or that it has a wireless adapter installed. If it is then here are some simple steps on how to configure it wirelessly on your computer assuming you are using Windows XP:

FOR SERVICE PACK 1 USERS:

1.Open the Start menu and select Control Panel.

2.Click on Network and Internet Connections.

3.Click on Network Connections.

4.Right-click on Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.

5.Click on the Wireless Networks tab.
Result: The Wireless Network Connection Properties window displays, and the Wireless HomePortal is listed in the Available wireless networks field.

6.Click Configure.
Result: The Wireless Network Properties window displays.

7.Locate the Serial Number and Wireless Encryption Key on the bottom of the 2Wire HomePortal.
Note: 2Wire HomePortals are pre-configured with wireless security enabled and use a 40-bit (64-bit) wireless encryption protocol (WEP) key.

8.Enter the Wireless Encryption Key in the Network Key field of the Wireless Network Properties window.

9.Re-enter the key in the Confirm Network Key field. Then click OK and also OK on the next screen to exit.

FOR SERVICE PACK 2 USERS:

1.Click on Start and select Control Panel.

2.Click on Network and Internet Connections.

3.Click on Network Connections.

4.Right click on Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.

5.Click on Wireless Networks tab.

6.Click View Wireless Networks.
Result: The Wireless Network Connection window displays.

7.Select the 2Wire network (called 2Wire### by default) can click Connect.
Result: Windows will attempt to connect to the network.

8.Windows will ask for the wireless encryption key located at the bottom of the 2wire modem (number in brackets below SN#).
The connection will now show, Acquiring Network Address.

9.The connection will then show, Connected.

Hope this helps. Goodluck!
