Bastard applies to both male and female. A bastard child is simply a child born out of wedlock it has nothing to do with the sex of the child.

Bastard is not really masculine or feminine - in our culture we tend to use it to be a masculine term. A baby - male or female - born out of wedlock is still a bastard. God bless you. ~Nise~

however we do not call these children bastards in todays world
bastard refers to the the circumstance of being born of parents who are not married to one another
