People keep saying that everyone is so oversensitive, but I don't think people would be so oversensitive if they just got the respect that they disserved.

People get so wrapped up in the freedom of speech thing that they seem to forget proper manners. Also, I think a lot of people are overwhelmed with the political correctness thing, they don't want the government telling them what they can and cannot say. All of this wouldn't be a problem if everyone just got the respect that they deserved as you said.

I guess some cultures have different ideas about what is rude and what is respectful in a sense. Loud music, children running wild, litter and junk, personal space, demands on government and society, frowned upon language, discrimination on all fronts, whatever involves feelings and respect. Speaking frankly, I think it's a mix of kids having kids and not knowing how to raise them to be respectful of ALL others, disenfranchised people feeling it's getting back at others more affluent by being rude, religious conservatism ironically, making some think that others are "evil" and therefore not deserving of respect for their feelings, much less beliefs, and our nation's culture becoming all about consumerism.
The melting pot idea was great in theory but many of us, especially of European descent, gave up our art, music and cultures and our societal niceties in order to become "real Americans", and now we find ourselves wondering what the hell we are as we watch reality tv while eating our fast food junk cuisine and look for the next piece of crap we need to show that we are worthy of respect, or at least better than those other people next door!! Even the portrayal of our communities on TV and in music make us all ugly & uncouth and teaches our kids that this is what life should be like, and so they act that role.

I'm disgusted about what we've become by and large. We seem to be throwing out the best of what we all have brought to this nation and celebrating the worst attributes- I say this in a civil sense, not religiously.

Shut up.

kidding, anyhow. The world is full of people who have no clue of the world around them. You see it on several degrees of stupidity. Some people won't make eye contact with you, some will walk into you and not even say sorry and still others will tell you to **** off for nothing other than boredom. I'm one of those people who see the entire world around them and understand the effect I have on other people through my actions. Its not all people who are rude, or don't respect others feelings. Nore do I think everyone who is an inconsiderate prick is being rude on purpose. I think its a level of self awareness.

Do u mean disrespectful?

yes..It seems to me that today people are just so into themselves..it's me, me, me and they don't care about what's going on around them or they don't even try to get to know the person sitting next to them in a class even if 4 months go by!

I mean what happened to friendliness and curiosity and wanting to know more about the other person than just be caught up in your own world and not care about what' s happening around you???

The politicians, the black culture and their attitude towards anyone not black. Their music becoming mainstream. The ME generation of the 60s. Our politicians. Teachers and parents. (I put teachers first because our kids spend more time with them than us.) The film industry. Television shows. Comedians.
