The crazy thing flushes twice even though I push the handle down once.

Remove the cover of the toilet tank and see what happens with the flapper and the handle when you flush the toilet. This will give you an idea of whats happening and what you will need to do, adjust or replace.

It could be that the flapper in the tank might not be setting right. The only two ways that it would flush twice would be that the water in the tank ran out for the float to start the water to run back into the tank . The other way could be that your house is haunted and you got ghosts. It is halloween. :)

you have a 1.6 gal toilet & a 3 gallon flapper
some like it like that... say it clears the bowl
two fixes- 1.) lower water level - 1 flush & wait to fill
2.) get a 1.6 gal flapper & get 3 flushes, one right after another, out of 1 tank

one simple answer- dont flush it
