A small, family owned is much better.I own the AmberMoon Cafe in Lincolnton,NC. We serve an authentic Italian menu, and my customers tell me all the time how my food is so much better than those places. But,because we are small, we can make all our sauces from scratch, we don't need to bring in canned or boxed product, to keep up with the high volume of business that a chain restaurant has to use. We even make our own meatballs, so if you want really good Italian, look for a family business that cooks for the love of the food, not the love of the dollar.

Romano's Macaroni Grill

The Olive Garden has the best alfredo sauce (order on the side $3.00 for dipping breadsticks) and of course the salad. I like to order the seafood dish with muscles, crab, shrimp, etc.

The Macaroni Grill is a little fancier if you are trying to impress someone. I love their bread with olive oil and vinegar for dipping. I usually get the sausage lasagna, and the spagetti and meatballs is great too.

I love both but since I've gone to the Olive Garden too many times to count I'll have to go with the Macaroni Grill. It's still new to me.

Olive Garden can be SOOOO good. I love their Greek salad, breadsticks and raspberry lemonade. Macaroni Grill has the most amazing dessert: Dessert Ravioli. It's "crumbled peanuts, caramel and rich chocolate ganache wrapped in golden-fried pastries. Served with vanilla ice cream and topped with caramel sauce." Just $4.99!
