Just wanted to say that Chicago has TWO baseball teams !! North siders are always acting like there's only one, but all the south siders are White Sox fans.... and you know how great that team is right now !!!
So -- depends on what part of Chicago you live in -- but you might want to pick your location in Chicago based on which team you like better. It really does make that much difference.
My husband was born in Chicago and raised in the south suburbs, and he...and all our sons... are dyed-in-the-wool
BEARS and WHITE SOX fans.
If you don't give a hoot about sports, I'd suggest going to Miami, 'cause you'll get sick of hearing about sports if you hate them and live in Chicago.
If you like Italian food... the largest pizza place in the world is located in Homewood, Illinois. It's called Aurelio's and this isn't advertising 'cause I have nothing to gain by telling you this. But it's a fantastic place to eat and they have lots of other great stuff besides pizza. Italian beef, Italian sausage, etc. Wine & beer to go with it. Chicago is a great place for restaurants. Mike Ditka even has a great restaurant there. Ed Debevic's is fun- a 50's style diner where the waiters are purposely rude to the customers... it's a "schtick"... Rock & Roll McDonald's is a great place, too.
Miami has hurricanes from June to November. That's a problem, in my opinion.
We lived in Key West when we were first married, and it was kind of nice to get there in January and find 72 degree weather. But once you get used to that, it's not such a big deal. I imagine all cities have their night life.
But Chicago has such an all-American style. And they sell great hats and gloves and winter coats. Do you look good in them? Go to Chicago.

I was born in Chicago. Lived in Ft. Lauderdale for awhile and I can tell you this. Both places are fantastic depending on what you prefer.
Chicago is COLD 6 months of the year. It's dirtier than FL, but if the cold (I mean tear through your clothes blistering winds) doesn't bother you then Chicago is your city. Being Land-locked is also a factor.
FL is wonderful, in my opinion, but I love the ocean/warm weather/beaches/laid back attitude of the Floridians. To me walking the piers no matter what time of year it is, is priceless. But you need to search your soul and decide what would be best for you! Good Luck!

Both have advantages and disadvantages. Your winters are great in Miami but summers are too hot. Summers aren't very nice in Chicago, but they are better than in Miami, and Chicago winters are notoriously horrible. Cultural life is undeniably much better in Chicago than in Miami. You can swim in the ocean in Miami all year, you can swim in the Great Lakes in the summer. Great landscapes around the Great Lakes, not so great around Miami. Overall, I'd take Miami just because of the weather.

Chicago! Four seasons, beautiful, always something to do and most importantly the Bears and the CUBS! haha. I don't like Miami, because it is full of trashy bimbos, ignorant jerks, too many rich snobs, humid weather and worst of all really bad hurricanes.
Chicago also has great culture asthetic due to its diverse population. There is small town charm in the big city, which is really rare and a unique prospect.

That's such a personal preference--Lucky you to have the choice. I suggest asking yourself these things:
What weather do I prefer. Do I have friends/relatives in either city, are you a sports fan & would you go to either cities venues (for sports, music or whatever) Check out the cost of living if that's an issue for you. Check out crime stats, commute info, housing options--stuff like that.
I like going to watch the Cubbies at Wriggley Field, but I don't care for quite that cold of weather. I like going to the beach, but I hated the conserviative politics of Fla.--and being from Arizona the humidity about killed me. Get my drift?
Congrats on your job opportunities. Good luck where ever you end up.
