You can say its just stuff for entertainment, but let me just tell you that the Columbine high school killings started with the two kids playing violent video games. But the again, its just entertainment huh? psh! No!

I've listened to that stuff and all I can say is that it is dangerous and brainwashing! Why else do they keep saying that dirty stuff over and over again with killer beats!

Its not just rappers and "hip hoppers". Its all of media. Especially the Internet. You can find so many Gorey games online, porn, where to buy crack, games about crackheads. Everywhere we look we see the results of how far we've fallen in morals and decency.
What happened to the good people? Where do the clean go?

I listened to gangsta rap when I was younger and in no way did it make me want to go out and join a gang, start selling drugs, or any other illegal act. People need to take responsiblity for their own actions. If video games are causing youngsters to be violent, why are the high school shootings atypical? You would think that there would be millions or maybe even billions of youngsters killing. The video game industry is very lucrative.

No, a lack of a strong household leads to those things. If parents were raising their children properly, they would not be so easily affected by such petty things. I do think the entertainment business shows children too much importance towards materialistic things, and that causes them to feel some petty things are needed to be happy.

I think they might influence teens to do these things, but you cannot take the blame away from the teens themselves. They are responsible for making the choices they make in their lives.
That said, I think parents need to do a better job of parenting (with less moral relativism and more consistent and effective punishment), and children need better role models.

Well, I can tell you this - I listened to my son's CDs when they were growing up and I pulled them away from him... sat in my car trunk for a long long time..... It is the parent's responsibility to know what is going on and what is acceptable in the house. I think it falsely "empowers" kids who are not emotionally ready to make decisions. I'm sure there are some "decent" rap songs - I just choose not to listen to them.

i totally agree w/u. but not all r bad. there is one really R&B/Rap song called S.E.X. by Lyfe Jennings that urges young people to wait until marriage or late life to do this. it tells them to hold onto their innocence. i also agree w/the person who said its b/c of a lack of a strong household. very good point.
