Use a smoke odor absorber you can find this at a janitorial supply company, if you do not have one in your area then use baking soda. First sweater needs to soak in a container with 1 cup baking soda, 1 cup vinegar, 1 gallon water and 1/4 cup ammonia, let it soak until no smoke odor is detected. Then wash the garment 1 more time and your problem is solved.

I worked at a cleaners once and we had several ppl bring in all their cloths after a house fire...We would wash them in Lysol, or febreez and hang them to air for a few days. if you are able to hang the shirt outside in the fresh air for a few days, I would suggest that...
Drycleaning will also get the smoke smell out....

Try hanging it outside in the sunshine for a day. I don't know how strong the smell is, but that's what I've done to remove cigarette smoke smell.
