Fungi can neither perform photosynthesis nor go out and eat necessary nutrients. They live of the decomposed remains of other organisms, in this case the decomposed leaves of a tree.

Ferns produce spores in order to procreate. These are often carried by the wind. In this case, a fox could brush the plant and drop the spores a distance away.

They are all composed of cells, have almost the same complement of organelles including chromosomes.

I understand that there are similarities in chromosomes in each of these species. Many scientists are trying to prove that because there are similarities, that proves evolution is true.
