Trying to remember the title of an old black and white flick?

I LOVE this movie but I can't even remember who is in it, much less the name! It's a famous one though. Basic story line is that 2 women are best friends and run a school. A young girl in the school who is very malicious tells her grandmother (?) that she saw the 2 teachers in inappropriate behavior, insinuating that they were gay. The school winds up being shut down and the teachers are shunned. I believe there was a trial also. In the end it comes out that the girl was lying because she was mad but one woman confesses to her friend that she DOES have feelings for her and always has. It ends with her committing suicide. Title?!!!! Anyone know the name?

It's from a story called The Children's Hour. There were two versions of it that I can think of offhand. One had Shirley Maclaine and Audrey Hepburn, I think. That film was called the Children's Hour, but I'm not sure if the other version was called something else.

When you say "old" i guess you might mean the 1936 version. The title was "These Three" and it starred Merle Oberon.
