I certainly understand you being concerned. It comes with the territory of being a parent.
As a nurse, I can tell you some of the things that he may be wanting to "rule out" as explaination for such a big baby. The things that immediately come to mind are Diabetes or overactive glands (thyroid, adrenal, etc.). That's just off the top of my head. I want to encourage you though to really talk to your doctor. He may be trying not to alarm you, but you are your child's only advocate. You have the right as your child's parent to know what tests he is running on your child.
There are things that can cause this. I think your doctor is smart to take the "better safe than sorry" route. The chances are more in your favor that things are just fine, especially since he probably started out as a big baby anyway.
Good Luck and I will keep him & your family in my prayers.

I don't think I would worry. My son is 5 months and 23 lbs, 27 inches. He was 8 lbs 15 oz at birth and has been in the 98% since. He is perfectly healthy.

Why would your doctor have your baby checked into the hospital and not tell you why? And why didn't you ask what they were looking for??
I don't think your baby is too big. My son was 8 lbs 9 ozs and 20" at birth, and at 4 mos he was 18 lbs 4 ozs and 26 1/2".

I wouldn't worry. My son was 9 lbs. 1 oz. when he was born, 11 lbs. when I brought him home, and 22 lbs. at 3 months and has stayed in the 90th percentile (larger than other children his age) his whole life (he's 6 now). He used to be a really chubby baby, but then just got tall and skinny. Now he's leveled out somewhat (still taller than most his age, but not too much so), and is 58 lbs. at 6 years old. Just make sure his diet doesn't consist of junk food later, and you should be fine. Congrats on having a healthy baby!

Gee that IS a huge baby! My son was 9Ib 7oz when he was born and now he is 13months and is about 23Ib and people still say that he is huge for his age! If he is not sitting up or rocking on his hands and knees or crawling then there might be a problem..? If he is that big he really should be doing all of those things. Geez, i cant get over that, he is a whopper! LOL Im sure hes fine though!

You did not give enough information. Did the doctor tell you what tests he would have run, or just say go to the hospital?

Ask the doc, he has to tell you. It could be anything. I never had that happen to me, and all 3 of my kids were strapping babies. Huge, even.
