We all know monsters like the Daleks, the Mysterons, Godzilla, and so on.
What makes a good sci-fi monster?
And which monster do you like best?

One that can spit evil, despite obviously being made out of vacuum cleaner parts and a shedload of tinfoil.

I can name a few good sci-fi monsters

Xenomorphs (Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, and that other one -.-)
Warrior Bugs (Starship Troopers, just the overwhelming numbers)
The Borg (do they count?)

and I don't know what it's called but the alien from The Thing! That is one of the best sci-fi monsters ever (in my opinion). Just when you think it's dead...it just appears again! and you have NO idea what it'll look like. Awesome movie by the way...

sry for that last rant. Yeah, basically monsters that give you the feeling that you can't possibly win are good.

the ones from aliens, also the ones from star ship trooopers are good as well. I think the ones in the alien films were so good because they were exactky that , alien! everything about them was so different and alien, like the way the reproduce a youngster laying an egg inside another species throat which then grows and hatches out as a adult alien. This is so bizarre and very frightening.

An alien without a sense of fear (which always seems to be the case) is very important as well.

The feeling of invincibility. Not knowing for the entire movie if the good guys can win and if so how. All kinds of cool abilities are nice as well and a coolness to the monster that "Hey, nobody can touch me."
