why do girls gossip so much?

girls talk about the most trivial details. for example, if a bloke is getting to know a girl, and let's say he sends her something as simple as a text message, she will go and tell her friends "O look, he sent me a text message".

Then they will dissect and analyse the contents of it for the next 3 days.

They even try to analyse when you said "hello", in what manner, how long you talked to them. it is unbelievable.

That's so funny, because it's always the guys I know who are the biggest gossips. I think it's a common misconception that it's women, but really, I think both genders probably gossip equally. It's just something people do, and I don't really think it has to be a bad thing. After all, we're social creatures, and gossip is a way of keeping up with what's going on in our group and also of testing the moral waters, so to speak. By relating something that appalls or delights us, we can gauge the reactions of others, to see if our moral compass is in the correct alignment.

The gossiping gives them something to do. We analyze because we want to know if a guy is into us or not. Men are very difficult to understand sometimes, so it takes a lot of thinking to figure them out.

We girls think things through in a more complex way. We tend to take things far. And we are open with our emotions. Usually guys are very dry and "whatever" about everything. But, we have people to tell stuff, so as soon as something significant happens the first thing that runs through our mind is, "As soon as I get home, I gotta call______ and tell her/him what happened!"
lol It's just the way we work. But honestly I think it's really fun and I like it being that way. It's exciting! =)

I don't gossip. I have no need to. I think the girls that do are just insecure and needing constant attention/reassurance from their friends.

Not all girls gossip (I'm one who doesn't) but they do it to make them feel better about themselves by bragging about something, or telling each other only the bad things about other people.

The worst gossips I know are men. The worst I've ever met is my boss, he's always at it, the juicier the better!
