Is brewing a cup of green tea better for you than drinking the pre-bottled ones such as Lipton Green Tea with citrus added? I prefer the pre bottled ones. I am drinking it on directions from my M.D. so I need to know if the benefits are the same. Thank you for your thoughts on this.

I just think when food is processed (bottled) they have to do a lot more to it so it will last longer. There may be preservatives added that change the benefits. Brew it yourself and get used to the taste.

The tea in bottled tea is not as strong (it's very diluted), and no matter how "pure" the company claims it is, is always going to have preservatives and sweeteners. If it didn't, it would taste awful. Drinking tea filled with preservatives and sweeteners basically cancels out any of the health benefits you are trying to get, so if you need to drink green tea, brew it yourself and add a little honey (as little as you can!), some skim milk and a bit of lemon. That's the healthiest way to drink tea.

There is very little green tea in prebottled teas. Brewing your own is better, cheaper and you an sweeten it (or not) any way you like. You get more green tea goodnessness.

All research and studies done so far are based on brewed loose tea. It's likely that instant powdered, bottled, decaffeinated, herbal teas, regular teabags, tea extracts or tea pills have fewer or none of the antioxidant properties of loose teas.

If you brew it from the bottle it will just not be as fresh.
