I have 2 little golfish, and 2 bigger goldfish in the same tank, the two bigger ones swam belly side up and both ended up dead. What should I do so it doesn't happen to my other fish,(chocolate, fashon)?

Hi. Well...it can be due to many factors. If you feed too much to your goldfish then you can get high levels of nitrate in your tank. A high level of nitrate can lead to your fish getting a diesease called dropsy. This is where your fish can not expel gases in it's stomach and dies. You can quite easily tell if a fish has dropsy because it gets a big belly and the scales on the belly area stand up like spikes. If you want to save a fish with dropsy you must find out the symptom quickly and I recommend adding some Furan 2 medication you can get from a specialist fish store. Dropsy is a very hard disease to cure and by adding Furan 2 it increases the chance of the goldfish living by about 50%. But 50% is quite small. And the medication can cost more than your fish!
Another reason why your fish may have died is because of a swimming bladder infection. If your fish was knocked around, handled roughly or beaten by other fish then the swimming bladder can be damaged and get infected. This results in the fish not being able to swim properly because it lost it's sense of balance. And finally your fish may have died if it's lateral line (which also helps your fish keep it's balance) was damaged. Hope this helped and wish you luck with your other fish. :-)

that happens when they get gas in their stomaches. The gas is lighter than the water and so it makes them swim like that.
