Since I have such a rustic home and love to recycle and be crafty, I use brown paper and twine or raffia. Then I take all the Christmas cards from the year before and find a cute picture and rip around it to give it that aged look. I use a glue stick to attach it to the front of the package, and write the TO and FROM on it. Then I usually put some sort of greenery or Cinnamon stick into the twine or raffia bow. They look real old fashioned. Sometimes I will crinkle the brown paper up first and then spread it all out again and rub gold stamping ink around it. It looks really cool.
I LOVE to wrap presents.....I think of it as an art form. I don't even care that it might get ripped open and tossed aside...it had it's moment of glory.

Mylar wrapping paper...
This is probably the shiny stuff that everyone else likes, too. But mylar specifically, is an awesome wrapping paper. It's difficult to rip, and can actually be used over and over because of that. If you ever receive a gift in mylar, you can use the paper to wrap something you give to someone else. It's the same material used to make those silver shiny balloons that you see in stores.
It is a little bit difficult to wrap with at first, until you get used to it. But it's also great for wrapping odd-shaped gifts by simply bunching the paper up around it, and securing it with simple curling ribbon.
Wal-Mart also carries it, so you can get it fairly cheap. So it's inexpensive, re-usable, difficult to rip, and definitely shiny and eye-catching. I can't go wrong with it!

Anything I don't have to wrap. I'm glad my boys are old enough to wrap their own stuff now, even if they do use up all the scotch tape in the process.
