Vodka has a characteristic that makes it different from almost any other spirit. Brandy is distilled from fruit, Whiskey is distilled from grain, Rum is distilled from sugar, and Tequila is distilled from Agave. In fact, the very classification of these spirits is based upon what they are made from.Your first guess might be potatoes, but while that guess might be technically correct, it accounts for such a small percentage of the vodka we consume. Actually, vodka can be, and is, made from almost anything. The most common vodkas are made from grain of one type or another, but it can also be made from beets, sugar, fruit, milk, whey, honey... the list is almost endless.

Vodka is made from Potato Acid. I know it sounds funny, but, back in World War II, in the Nazi concentration camps, the prisoners used to make Vodka (As seen in "The Great Escape") secretly. They used to boil the potatos in Water, then when they were finished, it came out as a strong, tasty mixture. Of course, they don't do that today, they use sophisticated machines to make Vodka.

Distilled fermented potatoes and water. And a few other things, but nothing for flavouring. True Vodka, plain that is, has no flavour.

allright it was originally fermented potatoes and water, that where distilled to stronger alcohol content.
Now a days we use grain a fermentation process and distilling. flavors come from the amount of time it fermented the roast of the wheat, water quality and time
