Well you don't see many people of any color on mainstream tv networks. But you're right, I can think of way more very drak men than women.
Call it the Halle Berry effect -- she's so beautiful and thought of as just black, not biracial.

Try viewing audience as an answer. If someone will not show up well on screen, then that person is not going to be put on television. It is the same reason that make-up is used. T.V. people want the audience to see their actors. In some cases, darker skin is applied with make-up to make the actor appear better onscreen. To some that is insulting and unacceptable. To others it is part of the business. Another good question, why are there so few elderly actors on television? Seems like once they hit 50 and above they start disappearing from the screen.

Perhaps people do not understand the term very dark, by this i mean Wesley Snipes, Flavor Flav, or Bernie Mac. So with that said, allow me to quote Denzel Washington on this very subject: " You will never see too many blacks working in Hollywood at any given time, because they do not wish to create a black power structure, not even by accident." The principle of this quote can be applied to mainstream TV networks just as easily. If any clarification is needed please refer to the Wille Lynch letter.
