i would dry clean it, but if you don't want to spend the money, try spraying with febreze or put in your dyer on no heat, only air with a few dryer sheets. that should take care of it.

I spin wool and own a fibre arts studio. This is what to do, first wool is from a sheep and think you must remember it is exactly just like your hair. A shampoo like Suave, not anything with a conditioner, run just beyond tepid hot water, into the sink add shampoo. Submerge hat gently and let hat soak, if color starts running put a little white vinegar in quickly to stop the color from run. Soak until waster feels tepid, scoop the hat up supporting its body from the strain of water. Rinse in same temp kneading easily giving the hat time to rest continue you with new water until there are no suds. Support like before, squeeze gently a couple to times. Lay on a towel without pulling or stretching roll up in towel pressing a little to release more water unroll and shape transfer to a dry towel let dry.
Do not be intimidated the time to wash your wooly's is the same way to wash all and time is approximately 10 to15 minutes.

Lightly rub vanilla extract on the inside of the hat. Vanilla takes the smell out of even a closed freezer where bait fish has defrosted. (I had a marina)

Put it in an empty drawer with a shallow bowl of white vinegar setting by it. After about 3 days, put hat outside in sunlight.
